Filming Permits & Crew Visa

All non-recreational filming & photography within Malaysia requires a permit.

Approvals for filming (feature film, documentaries, news, television programs and all commercial photography) in Malaysia must be obtained from the Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage of Malaysia.

Additional approval from the State Government in Sabah & Sarawak is needed when filming in these states.

All applications are forwarded through a
government approved Malaysian "Location Services Company" known as the "Local Sponsor".

Years of experience has made Treasure Images Sdn Bhd the ideal "Local Sponsor" for all your productions in Sabah.

Treasure Images will be entrusted with getting all the documentation and approvals done. We also must submit a background resume of the applicants, synopsis of the story, target audience / market, production costs, list of filming locations, filming schedule, filming cast & crew details (including travel documents) and equipment list.

Clearance will depend on the completion of the documentation required.

Approval of applications will take a minimum of two weeks at best (additional time is needed if the filming will take place in protected areas or parks).
