Proposed Coal Fire Plant in Darvel Bay

Green SURF (Sabah unite to Re-power Sabah’s Future) invited Treasure Images to dive and document the shoreline near the proposed Coal Fire Plant site.

Treasure Images had the opportunity to dive the shoreline in front of Sinakut Village and found an astonishing biodiversity.

“We had only two dives scheduled and I didn’t expect to get a lot of interesting subjects in front of my lens. Instead we were surprised, the silty bottom was teeming with all kind of marinelife; sea snakes, lobsters, sea stars, filter feeders, rare sea slugs, bristle worms, softcorals and the greatest variety of goby fish I ever have seen” explained marine photographer Eric Madeja.

“Undoubtedly Darvel Bay will become the next great Scuba Diving and Marine Eco-Tourism destination in Sabah, rivaling the great muck diving sites of Mabul, Kapalai and Mataking Island”.

The photographs below show the incredible biodiversity of Darvel Bay (all images were taken within 500m - 2km from the proposed coal fire plant site).
