National Geographic Channel Asia features ASTRO KASIH.
ASTRO KASIH, the corporate responsibility program of Malaysian satellite TV provider ASTRO invited more than 20 of their employees to Mabul Island in Sabah to conduct “coral planting”.
National Geographic Channel Asia (NGCAsia) approached Treasure Images to cover the underwater activities, which will be showcased on NGCAsia in a special program later this year.
“The filming went well, even though underwater visibility on the reef was degraded to less than 5 meters due to the bad weather conditions” said Senior Underwater Cameraman Eric Madeja after the shoot.
“Coral Planting” is done by cementing small, but alive hard coral pieces back to the reef’s base. If undisturbed, the coral might adapt to it’s new surrounding and will start growing at a rate of a few centimeters per year.
